Case study — Bakersfield Cedar

Big timbers. No quote games.

Bakersfield Cedar sells premium incense cedar to contractors and homeowners across Kern County. We built a warm, product-first website that puts real prices on the page, explains the material without the jargon, and turns a rough cut list into a fast conversation with the owner.

The challenge

The product was premium. The buying experience was all phone call.

Custom cedar does not fit neatly on a retail shelf. Sizes, lengths, project types, and availability vary — so buyers assumed they had to call before they could even understand the range. The site needed to make the first decision easier without making a small local operation feel like a faceless catalog.

What we built

Clear enough for the DIYer. Fast enough for the contractor.

We organized the experience around what people are actually building: pergolas, patio covers, outdoor kitchens, beams, fences, and gates. A warm cedar-and-cream visual system makes the material the hero while direct, local copy keeps Brendan — not a warehouse — at the center of the business.

Pricing as proof

The answer buyers want, before the form.

Most material sites hide every useful number behind “request a quote.” Bakersfield Cedar does the opposite. Common dimensional lumber and big timbers appear side by side with real prices, while custom cuts stay one clear action away. Transparency becomes the sales strategy.

The quote path

A rough idea becomes a useful lead.

The guided request starts with the project, then asks who is building and when the wood is needed. By the time a buyer adds sizes, quantities, and contact details, Brendan has enough context to answer with a real quote — without turning the form into homework.
